There are various global issues nowadays, such as global warming, unemployment, and deforestation. Global warming causes ice to melt in the North Pole where the polar bears live; if we don’t take it seriously, the polar bears are going to extinct. Deforestation is another serous issues too, since tree is an important element in our nature world, we can’t live without it. These are both issues we have to pay attention to. However, in my opinion, the most important issue is unemployment. Why? Because it has the potential to cause significant negative impacts compare to all other issues, and it influenced many countries and people.
Take the U.S. as an example; there are nearly 9.7 million people in the U.S. facing unemployment. And the unemployment rate, the unemployed workers divide by the total labor force and times 100%, in the U.S. is 6.2 percent. This shows that there are a number of people suffering from unemployment in the U.S, even though it is one of the strongest countries in the world. Studies show that there are 15 more countries in the world such as the Republic Of Burundi, Georgia, and the Republic Of Colombia that have much higher unemployment rates than the U.S. This demonstrates how severe unemployment issue is in our modern world.
Another reason of unemployment being the greatest problem in the world is that people in both advanced and emerging economies struggle to find jobs. In nowadays, having a bachelor degree doesn’t mean that one will have a job, finding jobs become harder and harder these days. Citizens in poor countries and wealthy countries both suffer from unemployment, while some other issues such as poverty, is only prevalent in poor countries. Also, unemployment deals with other factors such as genders and races. Women often suffer more from joblessness than men do, and black people often find it hard to search for jobs in the U.S. These are not simple problems that can be easily solved, because these things deal with bias, prejudice, and social concepts.
All in all, unemployment is the greatest problem in the world in that it has a great impact on various groups of people in the world; even the wealthy countries in the world face the problem of unemployment among their peoples. If we take a view of the very world we lived in, we will find out that everything is relevant to employment. People need jobs to earn money in order to support their families, the chair we sit on is made by the carpenter who is “employed” to make the chair, and we are educated by teachers who are “employed” to teach us. This shows how important employment is to us, and forces us to predict how bad the consequences will be when a country suffers severely from unemployment. Talking about cause and effect, we can say that unemployment is the cause that will lead to many other global issues; it creates what we called, the bad effects. For instance, unemployment leads to poverty, which is another serious global problem, since people who have no jobs don’t have any income; and eventually, poverty will lead to the increase of the number of homeless people, which is another severe global problem. Because we don’t want the bad consequences of unemployment to happen upon us, we have to take some precautions and take the problem of unemployment seriously.
